Pacific Skyline Council Sea Scouts Host Nautical Merit Badge Day

The Sea Scout Ships Gryphon, Intrepid and Challenger in Redwood City hosted a Nautical Merit Badge Day for Pacific Skyline Council Boy Scouts on June 23, 2012. A total of 21 Boy Scouts attended the event. The Sea Scouts taught three separate Merit Badge classes: Motorboating, Canoeing and Rowing.

The Boy Scouts registered online for a specific Merit Badge course. A Sea Scout leader and multiple Sea Scouts taught each course.

Sea Scouts also provided lunch for the Boy Scout attendees. As one member of the PacSky Advancement Committee noted, “Lunch was better than any Midway I’ve attended.”

Many of the Boy Scouts commented they enjoyed the Merit Badge Day because it was very hands-on. At the end of the day, one Boy Scout told his mother while standing on a Sea Scout boat, “I want to join this Ship.”
